Mon Dec 01 20:00:00 UTC 2025: Michelle Monaghan Refuses to Diminish Her Height for Male Co-Stars, Recalls Hollywood’s Past Expectations
Hollywood, CA – Actress Michelle Monaghan revealed in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she no longer feels pressured to remove her heels to appear shorter than her male co-stars. Monaghan, 49, recounted a specific instance on the set of Sofia Coppola’s 2010 film, Somewhere, where she was asked to remove her heels to avoid being taller than actor Stephen Dorff.
“The only detail that I do recall from that scene is the apple box he’s standing on because he’s shorter than I am,” Monaghan said. “It’s that classic Hollywood moment of, ‘This is an issue. You’re going to have to take off your heels.'”
Monaghan firmly stated that this is no longer acceptable: “I’m not going to take my shoes off for anybody — unless it’s for sound.” She believes the industry has progressed, acknowledging that such expectations were once common for actresses.
The interview comes as Monaghan promotes The Family Plan 2, a sequel to the 2023 hit action-comedy, which premiered on Apple TV on November 21. She stars alongside Mark Wahlberg, reprising their roles as husband and wife, Dan and Jessica. The sequel involves the family’s holiday vacation turning into a game of cat-and-mouse when a figure from Dan’s past appears.
Monaghan expressed her enjoyment of working with Wahlberg and their dedication to their craft. She also mentioned her excitement about filming in London and Paris, stating it was a major reason she agreed to the sequel.
