BHADRADRI KOTHAGUDEM, India – December 2, 2025 – The Telangana government today inaugurated the Dr. Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Bhadradri Kothagudem, marking a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to higher education and scientific research. The university, named after the former Prime Minister and renowned economist, is the first of its kind in India dedicated to Earth Sciences.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, speaking at the inaugural ceremony, hailed the university as an “iconic institution” poised to become a world-class center for research and development in the field. He emphasized the university’s potential to contribute immensely to Earth Sciences research and benefit the nation.

Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy criticized the previous BRS government for neglecting to honor Dr. Manmohan Singh, whose tenure as Prime Minister saw the formation of Telangana. He praised the current Congress government for recognizing the iconic leader’s contributions by naming the prestigious university after him.

The university, formerly the University College of Engineering, Kakatiya University, has been upgraded and will offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Geology, as well as Environmental Science courses, starting in the 2025-2026 academic year.

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao and Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao were also present at the inauguration.
