Mon Dec 01 11:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Weather Whiplash Expected for Columbus County This Week
Whiteville, NC – November 30, 2025 – Columbus County residents should brace for a week of rapidly changing weather conditions, according to a CCN weather update sponsored by Freedom Insurance.
Today, Sunday, will bring dramatically warmer temperatures, with highs reaching the mid to upper 60s under a mix of sunshine and clouds. This unseasonably warm weather is thanks to a southwesterly wind flow ahead of an approaching cold front.
However, the pleasant conditions won’t last. The cold front is expected to move through tonight, stalling offshore on Monday. A weak wedge of high pressure will keep Monday dry with partly sunny skies, but temperatures will drop back into the 50s.
The main weather story will arrive late Monday night and continue through Tuesday. A significant area of low pressure, carrying double the normal moisture, is expected to bring widespread rain to the region. Forecast models predict between 1 and 1.5 inches of rainfall. While the area is currently experiencing a moderate drought, leading to better absorption, nuisance flooding is still possible in low-lying areas. Expect ponding on streets and roads, particularly on Tuesday, and exercise caution while traveling.
There is a slight chance of thunderstorm activity on Tuesday, depending on the exact track of the low-pressure system.
The rain will clear out Tuesday night, with a cold front potentially bringing a few snowflakes as it passes through. Dry and cool conditions are expected for Wednesday and Thursday, providing a brief respite before another southern stream system develops, bringing more rain into the area from Friday into the weekend. The forecast suggests warmer air will prevail, so the precipitation is expected to be rain.
“It’s going to be a rollercoaster of temperatures and precipitation this week,” stated Meteorologist Christopher Cawley. “Residents should stay informed and be prepared for potentially hazardous driving conditions on Tuesday.”
