Mon Dec 01 13:09:39 UTC 2025: Congress MP Sparks Outrage After Bringing Dog to Parliament, Making Controversial Analogy
NEW DELHI – A Congress MP, Renuka Chowdhury, has ignited a political firestorm after arriving at Parliament on the opening day of the Winter Session with a dog. The controversy stems from Chowdhury’s remark comparing the animal to MPs, stating “those who bite are inside parliament.”
Chowdhury’s actions, which included briefly bringing the puppy onto the premises before sending it home, have drawn scrutiny for potential breaches of parliamentary protocol. According to sources, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat is reviewing CCTV footage of her entry.
The Congress MP defended her actions, claiming she rescued the puppy from a near-collision and questioned the existence of any law prohibiting members from bringing dogs to Parliament. “How could anyone object to an act of saving the life of an animal?” she asked. She then accused the government that “those who bite are sitting inside the parliament and running the government.”
The BJP has strongly condemned Chowdhury’s behavior, labeling it an “insult to Parliament.” Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala accused her of comparing colleagues and parliamentary staff to dogs and emphasized the Congress wants drama, and not policy, in the parliament. Poonawala further stated, “Renuka Chaudhary and Congress should apologise.”
This incident marks the latest point of contention between the BJP and Congress, who later clashed in Parliament over other issues.
