Mon Dec 01 07:10:00 UTC 2025: Supreme Court Refuses to Halt SSC Recruitment, Orders Publication of “Tainted” Candidates’ List
New Delhi/Kolkata: The Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the ongoing School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment process in West Bengal, refusing to stay the appointments. Chief Justice Surya Kant emphasized the importance of ensuring that deserving candidates are not unfairly penalized when recruitments are cancelled due to irregularities. He noted that meritorious students will eventually be re-appointed.
This decision comes as the Kolkata High Court issued a significant directive in the same SSC case. The High Court has ordered the SSC to publish a comprehensive list of 7,293 “tainted” candidates from Group C and Group D positions. This list must include detailed information about each candidate, including their roll number, marks, father’s name, and address. The commission has already released a list of 3,512 such candidates, but the court is now demanding a complete and detailed accounting of those implicated in OMR sheet discrepancies, rank jumping, and out-of-panel appointments. The future of the Group C and D recruitment process hinges on the outcome of the legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, controversy continues to plague new SSC recruitments, particularly concerning an unresolved case regarding additional marks. Justice Amrita Sinha of the Kolkata High Court has directed the SSC to publish the OMR sheets of candidates who participated in the 2025 recruitment exam on its website. The judge strongly criticized the commission, stressing the need for transparency from the outset to avoid future allegations of irregularities.
Further, Justice Sinha has demanded a list by December 10th of individuals who received appointment letters for classes IX-XII even after the panel’s validity had expired in the 2016 recruitment process. She questioned the commission’s focus on document verification when the validity of the examination itself remains uncertain.
