Herbert Injured, Briefly Exits Game; Returns with Protective Glove
Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles Chargers’ game against the division rival Las Vegas Raiders took an unexpected turn early Sunday as quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a left-hand injury.
Herbert threw a touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston to put the Chargers up 7-0. Soon after, he was seen jogging to the locker room after appearing to injure his left (non-throwing) hand.
Initial reports from ESPN’s Kris Rhim and The Athletic’s Daniel Popper indicated Herbert’s injury was serious enough to warrant immediate examination. This left fans wondering how long he may be out.
The Chargers declared Herbert questionable to return, and backup quarterback Trey Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick, was promptly inserted into the game.
However, in a turn of events, Herbert returned to the sidelines with a padded glove on his injured left hand. He entered the game a short time later.
The Chargers have not yet released details on the nature or severity of Herbert’s injury, but his return to the game with a protective glove suggests he’ll be able to finish the game.
