KOCHI, India – December 1, 2025 – Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) has solidified its commitment to advancing marine and earth system sciences through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES). The agreement, finalized today, aims to strengthen joint research initiatives, academic collaboration, and overall capacity building within these vital scientific fields.
The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Director of the Centre for Marine Living Resources and Ecology (CMLRE), and Dr. Arun A.U., Registrar of CUSAT, marking a significant step forward in collaborative research. As part of the agreement, CUSAT will work closely with five of MoES’s premier research institutions: the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) in Chennai, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) in Hyderabad, the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Goa, the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune, and CMLRE in Kochi.
The partnership will open up numerous opportunities for students and researchers alike, including joint supervision of research scholars, student internship programs, facilitated access to national research facilities, and participation in research cruises, polar expeditions, and ocean observation missions.
