Andrew Terraciano Out, Mika Amonsen In: A New Face for Sean Reagan in “Boston Blue”
[City, State] – [Date] – After portraying Sean Reagan on CBS’s “Blue Bloods” for nearly 300 episodes, actor Andrew Terraciano has been replaced by Mika Amonsen in the new spinoff series, “Boston Blue.” The change has sparked curiosity among fans of the Reagan family drama.
Terraciano, who played Donnie Wahlberg’s on-screen son from 2010 to 2024, was a familiar face at the Reagan family dinner table. However, when “Boston Blue” premiered in October, Amonsen stepped into the role.
Creator Brandon Margolis explained to Variety that the recasting was a strategic decision to introduce a fresh dynamic as Sean enters the family business and Danny Reagan navigates being a father of a cop. Margolis stated the switch was “an organic opportunity to bring in a new performance with a new energy, to help dramatize that change”.
Terraciano, who has remained silent on the recasting, has kept “Sean Reagan on CBS’s Blue Bloods” in his Instagram bio.
Amonsen acknowledged the pressure of taking on the established role, emphasizing his respect for Terraciano’s portrayal. “I really want to maintain Sean as close as I can in the ways that I do it out of respect for this character that everyone loves — but also the character Andrew built,” he said. Amonsen added that he binged episodes of “Blue Bloods” to better understand Sean’s character development.
Amonsen has found comfort in noticing the similarities in their upbeat energy, allowing him to comfortably bring his own version to the role. He’s also been given the freedom to explore a new dynamic with Donnie Wahlberg in the show.
“Boston Blue” airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
