Minneapolis, MN – November 28, 2025 – A winter storm is currently sweeping across southern Minnesota, bringing with it heavy snowfall and prompting warnings and advisories across the state. CBS Minnesota reports that the storm, which began in southwestern Minnesota Friday night, is expected to continue through Saturday, impacting travel and potentially causing hazardous conditions.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for much of southern Minnesota, predicting significant snowfall accumulations. Areas along Interstate 90 could see a substantial 6 to 10 inches of snow, while Redwood Falls and Red Wing are expected to receive 3 to 5 inches. Faribault is forecast to get between 4 and 6 inches.

The Twin Cities metro area is also expected to be affected, with a likely accumulation of 3 to 4 inches. The northern metro is predicted to see slightly less, with estimates of 2 to 4 inches. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Renville, Sibley, and Yellow Medicine counties, and will be expanding to include western Minnesota and the metro area at midnight.

WCCO has issued a NEXT Weather Alert through Saturday, urging residents to exercise caution and prepare for winter driving conditions.

Adding to the challenge, sharply colder air is expected to follow the storm. Saturday’s high temperatures will be in the mid-20s, with wind chills making it feel like the teens. The cold will intensify on Sunday, with high temperatures in the teens and wind chills dropping into the single digits.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to remain frigid next week, hovering between the teens and 20s, with another potential snow event predicted towards the end of the work week.

Minnesotans are advised to monitor weather updates, exercise caution while traveling, and prepare for significantly colder temperatures following the storm.
