Sat Nov 29 17:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Benfica Faces Nacional in Madeira, Mourinho Receives Warm Welcome

Funchal, Madeira – Benfica is set to face Nacional at the Estádio da Choupana today in a match crucial for their Liga title aspirations. The team, led by coach José Mourinho, received a festive welcome upon arrival in Madeira, with fans eager to greet the squad at Cristiano Ronaldo Airport.

Nacional midfielder André Sousa anticipates a “competitive” game and aims to secure a second home victory, promising to “complicate the life” of Benfica. Nacional coach Tiago Margarido echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of securing points to maintain their league position. He also expressed his admiration for Mourinho, calling him his “greatest reference.”

Margarido’s lineup includes Kaique in goal, with Nourani and Kaique also in the starting eleven. Mourinho has opted for Rodrigo Rêgo in his natural position, with Aursnes and Barrenechea in midfield, Sudakov on the left, and Barreiro behind striker Pavlidis.

The Choupana is expected to be sold out, with approximately 5,200 spectators attending the 51st historic encounter between the two clubs. Referee Iancu Vasilica will officiate the match.

Benfica is without the suspended Richard Ríos and injured Henrique Araújo. Mourinho downplayed Ríos’ absence, stating a focus on the available players. He also acknowledged the difficulty of the match against an “aggressive” Nacional side.

The “Eagles” are looking to bounce back from a recent league draw and stay in contention with Sporting and FC Porto at the top of the table. Nacional, currently in 10th place, aims to end a three-game winless streak.

The weather forecast indicates good visibility for the start of the match, allaying fears of fog disruptions that have plagued previous games at the Choupana. Notably, a previous match between the two teams had to be postponed due to fog.
