Assam MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed Suspended Again After Reinstatement
Guwahati, India – November 29, 2025 – Assam MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed was briefly suspended from the Assam Legislative Assembly today, just one day after his suspension for the entire Winter Session was revoked. The disruption occurred at the end of Question Hour when Mr. Ahmed, formerly of the Congress party, attempted to raise a Point of Order.
Speaker Biswajit Daimary questioned Mr. Ahmed about the rule under which he was raising the matter. Mr. Ahmed did not directly answer and continued to speak, prompting the Speaker to suspend him for a period of time.
Mr. Ahmed and fellow Congress MLA Nurul Huda were initially suspended on Tuesday, November 25, following recommendations from the Privilege Committee regarding alleged mistreatment of Deputy Speaker Numal Momin. However, Speaker Daimary revoked their suspensions on Friday, November 28, after requests from legislative party leaders.
The repeated suspension of Mr. Ahmed highlights the ongoing tensions within the Assam Legislative Assembly.
