Kerala Doctors Continue Boycott Over Unmet Demands

Thiruvananthapuram – A statewide strike by the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers’ Association (KGMCTA) is entering its sixth week, disrupting outpatient services at government medical colleges across the state. On Saturday, November 29, 2025, doctors will boycott outpatient clinics and theory classes for medical students as part of the ongoing protest against the government’s alleged neglect of their long-standing demands.

Despite the strike, in-patient treatment, surgeries, emergency services in casualty, labor room, ICU, and emergency surgeries will continue unaffected. The KGMCTA stated they are intensifying their agitation due to the government’s inaction and have suspended official discussions, planning protest meetings at all medical colleges.

The association is appealing to the public to avoid non-emergency hospital visits during the strike. Key demands include the rectification of pay revision anomalies, especially discrepancies in the entry-level pay for Assistant Professors, the immediate disbursement of pay revision arrears pending since 2016, and the creation of adequate faculty posts based on National Medical Commission norms and patient load in new and existing medical colleges. The KGMCTA argues that current pay levels are discouraging young doctors from joining the medical education service.
