Karnataka Woman Dies Months After Allegedly Being Injected with Mercury by Husband

Attibele, Karnataka – A woman in Attibele, near Bengaluru, has died after battling for her life for nine months following an alleged mercury injection by her husband. Vidya, the victim, passed away in November after enduring prolonged suffering from mercury poisoning, according to a First Information Report (FIR) filed on November 23rd at the Attibele Police Station.

Vidya’s dying declaration detailed a history of abuse and neglect by her husband, Basavaraj, and his father, Mariswamachari. She claimed Basavaraj subjected her to constant harassment, humiliation, and confinement, and regularly verbally abused her, all while she had a four-year-old child to care for.

According to her statement, Vidya awoke on February 27th experiencing severe pain in her right thigh, suspecting an injection. Tests conducted at Oxford Hospital in March confirmed mercury poisoning, with subsequent surgeries and tests further confirming the presence of mercury in her system. She was later transferred to Victoria Hospital, where doctors revealed the poison had spread, causing extensive organ damage, including kidney failure.

Vidya explicitly accused her husband and father-in-law of injecting her with mercury on Shivaratri, with the intent to kill her. Despite extensive medical intervention, including dialysis, her condition continued to deteriorate until her death in November. The Attibele Police are investigating the case.
