Mon Nov 24 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Ted Danson Falls for Real-Life Wife Mary Steenburgen (Who Might Be a Blackmailer!) in “A Man on the Inside” Season 2

LOS ANGELES – Ted Danson is breaking all the rules in the upcoming season of Netflix’s “A Man on the Inside,” but can you blame him? Danson’s character, wannabe private investigator Charles Nieuwendyk, finds himself falling for Mona Margadoff, a Wheeler College professor who’s also the prime suspect in his latest case. What makes this situation even more complicated? Mona is played by Mary Steenburgen, Danson’s wife of 30 years.

“It’s so much fun to play falling in love with someone you’re madly in love with,” Danson told USA TODAY. The on-screen romance mirrors the couple’s real-life connection, which began with an unsuccessful audition for Danson to play Steenburgen’s husband in the 1983 film “Cross Creek,” and blossomed on the set of the 1994 movie “Pontiac Moon”.

The casting choice was the brainchild of executive producer Mike Schur, who previously worked with both Danson and Steenburgen on “The Good Place.”

Danson emphasizes that working with Steenburgen is a “dream come true”. The couple, who share a playful relationship filled with shared word games and admitted “nauseating” dog talk, even navigated on-screen divorce rumors, thanks to a storyline on Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Steenburgen’s character, an offbeat music professor, adds an element of realism, with the Oscar-winning actress known to play the accordion around the house. Danson admits to being a fan.

Despite his character’s bumbling nature and tech ineptitude, Danson’s earnestness shines through as Charles stumbles onto the truth. “A Man on the Inside” aims to celebrate the joys of aging and second chances, reminding viewers that there’s always something new to discover, regardless of age.

Season 2 of “A Man on the Inside” streams on Netflix on November 20.
