PML-N Sweeps Pakistan Bye-Elections Amidst Low Voter Turnout
Islamabad – November 24, 2025 – Pakistan’s ruling party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has secured a resounding victory in the bye-elections held on Sunday, November 23rd. Unofficial results indicate the PML-N won 12 out of the 13 seats contested, solidifying their position in the country’s political landscape.
The bye-elections were necessitated by the disqualification of numerous lawmakers from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, following their conviction related to the May 9th violence. Polling was conducted for six National Assembly (NA) seats and seven Provincial Assembly of Punjab seats. The NA seats were primarily in Punjab, with one in the Haripur area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
While the PML-N dominated the results, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) managed to secure one seat in the Muzaffargarh constituency of the Punjab Assembly. The main opposition party, PTI, largely abstained from the electoral process, participating in only two National Assembly races.
Dunya News reported that the election process was peaceful, but voter turnout was notably low. PML-N supporters celebrated their win with fireworks and the distribution of sweets. The results are expected to further solidify the PML-N’s hold on power and potentially reshape the dynamics of Pakistani politics.
