ROCKFORD TOWNSHIP, MN (WJON News) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon near Rockford Township claimed the lives of two drivers and left one passenger critically injured.
The Minnesota State Patrol reports that the crash occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Highway 55 near the intersection of County Road 33. A GMC Acadia, driven by 50-year-old Shawn Slaven of Plymouth, was traveling eastbound when it collided with a westbound Chevy Equinox driven by 20-year-old Mindimoie Diggines of St. Paul. Both vehicles veered off the road and rolled into the ditch after the impact.
Both Slaven and Diggines were pronounced dead at the scene. Brooke Hoheisel, 18, of Freeport, a passenger in Diggines’ Equinox, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment. Another passenger, Precious Diggines, 18, of Minneapolis, was taken to North Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
