NEW YORK, NY – Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. revealed that the Nets organization has advised him to curb his controversial podcast appearances, particularly regarding sensitive topics. Porter Jr. made the disclosure on fellow NBA player Lonzo Ball’s show, indicating the team wants him to focus on basketball-related content.
“They would appreciate if I steer clear of certain topics, you know what I mean?” Porter Jr. stated, acknowledging the conversations he’s had with the Nets.
This comes after Porter Jr. has faced scrutiny for comments made on various podcasts. He recently sparked debate by suggesting his eighth-grade self could compete against WNBA players and has previously shared controversial opinions on relationships and even admitted to testing women’s reactions to controversial figures like Andrew Tate.
Porter Jr. has previously characterized his podcast comments as simply “talking s—,” but the Nets appear to be taking a more proactive approach. The organization has yet to respond to requests for comment on the matter.
Despite the Nets’ struggles this season (2-12), Porter Jr. has been a standout performer, averaging over 24 points and seven rebounds. This development comes amidst the backdrop of his brother, Jontay Porter, recently being banned from the NBA for gambling violations.
