Mon Nov 24 07:52:39 UTC 2025: Mumbai to Get ‘Paatal Lok’ of Tunnels to Ease Congestion, Says Fadnavis
Mumbai, India – Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled ambitious infrastructure plans for Mumbai on Monday, promising a vast network of underground tunnels designed to alleviate the city’s notorious traffic congestion. Drawing a playful comparison to the popular Netflix series “Paatal Lok,” which depicts a dark underworld, Fadnavis stated that this “Paatal Lok” of tunnels would run parallel to existing roads, providing seamless connectivity across the city.
“We are creating a ‘Paatal Lok,’ a widespread network of tunnels across Mumbai for complete decongestion,” Fadnavis announced. He emphasized that the tunnel network would be complemented by the city’s expanding metro system.
Key projects highlighted include a parallel road between Borivali and Goregaon, and the Worli-Shivdi connector, slated for completion next year, which will link Atal Setu to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. A proposed tunnel connecting Bandra to the Bandra Kurla Complex aims to improve airport access.
Beyond infrastructure, Fadnavis also touched on political strategy, particularly concerning the upcoming elections for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). He stressed the importance of both ideology and political pragmatism, citing the recent performance of Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party in Bihar as an example of the need for electoral success to maintain relevance. Fadnavis defended the political system against accusations of widespread corruption, highlighting the Union government’s clean record and advocating for a balanced perspective.
