Kuldeep Yadav’s Spin Puts India in Control on Day 1 of Second Test Against South Africa
Guwahati, India – November 22, 2024 – India’s Kuldeep Yadav showcased his spin prowess, claiming three crucial wickets on Day 1 of the second Test against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, putting the home side in a strong position.
After South Africa elected to bat, openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton provided a solid foundation with an 82-run partnership. However, Jasprit Bumrah struck first, removing Markram for 38. Kuldeep then stepped up, dismissing Rickelton for 35 and later accounting for Wiaan Mulder (13), who was caught at mid-off by Yashasvi Jaiswal after miscuing a lofted drive.
Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with a wicket, breaking a promising 84-run stand between Temba Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs by dismissing Bavuma for 41. Stubbs fell shortly after for 49.
At the time of reporting, South Africa were struggling at 224/5 after 72 overs, with Tony de Zorzi (22) and Senuran Muthusamy (9) at the crease.
India will be looking to level the series after South Africa’s surprise 30-run victory in the first Test in Kolkata. With Kuldeep Yadav leading the charge, the momentum appears to be shifting in India’s favor.
