Philadelphia, PA – The 32nd annual Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend is underway, drawing 37,000 participants from nearly 60 countries to the city. Runners have taken to the Ben Franklin Parkway for events including the Philadelphia Half Marathon and the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K Run on Saturday, with the AACR Philadelphia Marathon and the Nemours Children’s Run scheduled for Sunday.
The massive event, which is nearly sold out, has resulted in significant road closures throughout the city. Major thoroughfares including the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, 20th Street, Eakins Oval, Kelly Drive, and the Spring Garden Street Bridge are impacted.
The Philadelphia Police Department is managing access for local residents and businesses along the race routes. Motorists are advised to pay close attention to “No Parking” signs, as vehicles parked along the race routes will be relocated. Access to the Philadelphia Museum of Art remains open via Spring Garden Street to Anne D’ Harnoncourt Drive.
Road closures will remain in effect throughout the weekend. While many streets are expected to reopen by 2 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, Eakins Oval and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway will remain partially closed until 5 p.m. Sunday. Some roads will not fully reopen until 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24.
SEPTA bus routes will be rerouted starting at 6 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Regional Rail users are encouraged to utilize Suburban Station or 30th Street Station for access to the start and finish lines.
NBC10 has been on location, speaking with runners and providing updates on the race and road closures.
