Eastern Washington Sisters Found Safe After AMBER Alert

GRAYS HARBOR, Wash. – Two young sisters from Odessa, Washington, who were the subject of an AMBER Alert, have been found safe late Tuesday, according to the Odessa Police Department (OPD). The alert was issued earlier in the day by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) after the girls, ages 8 and 11, were allegedly abducted by their mother.

The OPD confirmed that the girls were supposed to be returned to their father by 4 p.m. on Sunday as part of a court-ordered parenting plan. The WSP issued the AMBER Alert at approximately 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) displayed the notice on electronic billboards along Interstate 5.

The girls were last seen at 6 a.m. Tuesday on W. Broadway Ave. in Montesano. Authorities believed their mother may have been heading to Deer Park in Spokane, or potentially out of state to Arizona, Utah, or California.

According to court records, the girls’ parents have been involved in divorce proceedings since September. The father, who resides with the girls in Odessa, about 75 miles west of Spokane, stated in filings that the mother has a history of mental health challenges, including bipolar disorder, and drug abuse. He alleged she had relapsed after draining their bank account, told him she was suffering from postpartum depression and felt detached from the children, and refused counseling.

Police confirmed the girls’ mother was not in custody as of Tuesday evening. The exact location where the girls were found and the circumstances surrounding their recovery have not been released.
