A Pulitzer-winning author struggling with grief finds her creative spark reignited by an unlikely muse in Netflix’s new thriller, “The Beast in Me.” Aggie Wiggs (Claire Danes), haunted by the death of her son, becomes entangled with her enigmatic new neighbor, Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a real estate tycoon suspected of murdering his first wife.
As Aggie begins writing Nile’s biography, she’s drawn into his corrupt world and finds herself investigating the disappearance of a local teenager, who killed Aggie’s son in car accident, setting off a chain of events that exposes both Nile’s dark secrets and Aggie’s own inner demons.
“The line between us all is relatively thin,” says Rhys. “You lose your son, you could be driven to doing this.”
As the series unfolds, Aggie uncovers shocking truths about Nile, his past, and a web of deceit that reaches the highest levels of power. But the closer she gets to the truth, the more dangerous her obsession becomes.
“There’s this ruse, the cover, the excuse of seeing if he was truly responsible,” explains Danes. “But I think Aggie was also successfully seduced by Nile.”
“The Beast in Me” is a twisting tale of grief, obsession, and the darkness that lurks within us all. The show is now streaming on Netflix.
