Vince Staples Discusses Friendship with Dave Chappelle, Addresses Potential Move to Stand-Up

NEW YORK, NY – Rapper and actor Vince Staples recently opened up about his friendship with comedy legend Dave Chappelle in an interview with Vulture’s “Good One” Podcast, revealing insights into Chappelle’s creative process and hinting at the possibility of one day trying stand-up comedy himself.

Staples, 32, emphasized that his bond with Chappelle is rooted in genuine connection and everyday conversation, rather than industry-related discussions. He described Chappelle as “a regular person” who offers advice in a unique way, encouraging Staples to pursue his craft authentically.

“He’s just very much so a person that’s telling you to do it in your way,” Staples said, adding that Chappelle often speaks “in riddles” but always has a compelling story to share.

Staples also shared observations about Chappelle’s stand-up routine development, noting that the comedian often draws from conversations and works out material rapidly before taking it to the stage.

While Staples initially dismissed the idea of pursuing stand-up comedy due to the extensive work and dedication required, he acknowledged its appeal. “It’s a really interesting muscle to develop, you know?… Maybe one day,” he said, leaving the door slightly ajar for a future foray into the world of stand-up.

The interview also touched on other topics, including the Kawhi Leonard tree controversy, which Staples also shared his thoughts on.

The full interview is available on Vulture’s “Good One” Podcast.
