HYDERABAD, November 18, 2025 – A new report reveals a concerning surge in crimes against children in Telangana, India during 2023. Data analyzed by NGO Child Rights and You (CRY), based on the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) figures, shows an 8.1% increase in reported crimes against children, totaling 6,113 incidents.

The most alarming statistic is the prevalence of sexual offenses, which account for over 80% of all crimes committed against children in the state. The report highlights an average of five child rape cases reported every single day under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012. POCSO cases alone constitute 51.6% of total crimes against children. Sexual assaults spiked by 38.3% compared to the previous year. While the increase in POCSO cases may also point to improved reporting, the underlying trend is deeply troubling.

Kidnapping and abduction also remain a significant problem, accounting for nearly one-third of all child-related crimes. Numbers have risen 8% from 2022.
