Mon Nov 17 18:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Koeman Hints at Liverpool Stars Rest Amid World Cup Qualifier Nearing Completion

Amsterdam, Netherlands – Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has suggested he may rotate his squad for their final World Cup qualifier against Lithuania, potentially benefiting Liverpool boss Arne Slot. With qualification for the 2026 World Cup virtually secured following a draw against Poland and a commanding goal difference, Koeman acknowledged concerns about player fatigue ahead of the match.

Liverpool trio Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo are all regular starters for the Dutch national team and are expected to feature in the upcoming World Cup. However, Koeman’s comments indicate that at least some of them could be rested against Lithuania.

“Things won’t go wrong anymore, so you can also look at player fatigue,” Koeman stated in a press conference. “We want to make it a good match, with good football and goals.”

While Koeman stopped short of confirming his plans, any rest afforded to the Liverpool players would be welcomed by Arne Slot, who is preparing his squad for their Premier League return against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

The Netherlands are dealing with several injuries, with Justin Kluivert, Wout Weghorst, Denzel Dumfries, and Quilindschy Hartman all sidelined. Jan Paul van Hecke is also suspended.

Koeman is seeking a better performance from his team after a disappointing showing against Poland, criticizing the team’s urgency and defensive lapses. “There were also moments when we were outplayed too easily. That urgency can and must improve,” he said.
