Puducherry MP Raises Concerns Over Nursing Officer Recruitment Process
PUDUCHERRY, November 18, 2025 – Former Member of Parliament and president of Puducherry Maanila Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, M. Ramadass, is urging the Puducherry territorial administration to reconsider the selection process for 226 Nursing Officer positions at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Research Institute.
In a statement released today, Ramadass expressed concerns that the current qualification requirements, selection process, and the authority designated for selection could lead to manipulation and the appointment of substandard personnel. He argued that prioritizing five years of continuous residence could favor those who recently migrated to Puducherry for education or employment over native residents. Ramadass believes recruitment should be restricted to those born and educated within the Union Territory from first standard through their diploma/degree courses.
Ramadass criticized the proposed weightage of 100 marks for academic performance in Plus 2, diploma/degree, noting disparities in grading standards across different boards, institutions, and evaluation systems. He further stated that students from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds do not have equal access to quality education. Instead, he advocated for a common competitive examination and interview, similar to the Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test of AIIMS, to more accurately assess the suitability, attitude, and professional commitment of candidates.
