San Francisco, CA – Elon Musk’s xAI has officially launched its highly anticipated Grok 4.1 model, rolling it out to users this week after a silent introduction earlier in the month. xAI is touting the new model as a significant leap forward, boasting enhanced capabilities in creative writing, emotional intelligence, and collaborative interactions.
According to xAI, Grok 4.1 is designed to be more perceptive to nuanced intent, making it more compelling and coherent in conversations. Initial tests appear to support these claims, as Grok 4.1 has swiftly climbed to the top of several prominent AI leaderboards.
In a major upset, Grok 4.1 has overtaken Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro on the LMArena leaderboard for text-related tasks. Both “Grok 4.1 Thinking” and “Grok 4.1” now hold the top two spots, surpassing competitors like Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The new model also excels in emotional intelligence, achieving the top two rankings on the EQ Bench benchmark, which evaluates abilities like understanding, empathy, and interpersonal skills.
Grok 4.1 also secured second and third places in the Creative Writing v3 benchmark, demonstrating strong performance in generating responses to diverse writing prompts.
Furthermore, xAI claims that Grok 4.1 has made significant strides in reducing hallucinations, or the tendency for AI models to generate false or misleading information. In internal testing, Grok 4.1 exhibited a hallucination rate of just 4.22% on real-world information seeking queries, compared to the 12.09% rate of its predecessor, Grok 4.0. Similar improvements were seen on the FactScore benchmark.
“Users will notice that Grok 4.1 is much nicer to talk to, more understanding and more helpful than its predecessor,” xAI said in a statement.
The launch of Grok 4.1 comes amidst a flurry of activity in the AI landscape, with OpenAI recently releasing its GPT 5.1 model and rumors swirling about Google’s upcoming Gemini 3.0.
Looking further ahead, Elon Musk has confirmed that Grok 5, xAI’s next frontier model, is now slated for release in the first three months of 2026, a slight delay from the previously announced late 2025 timeframe.
