Hyderabad, November 14, 2025 – Pasala Dayaratnam, former Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) and esteemed professor of Civil Engineering, passed away on November 11th at the age of 93.
Dayaratnam served as Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-H from 1995 to 1998. Prior to that, he headed the Civil Engineering Department and served as Dean of Research and Development at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. A prolific author, his textbooks on structural engineering, brick and reinforced structures, and prestressed concrete structures remain widely used by students, designers, and builders.
