São Paulo, Brazil – Lando Norris of McLaren delivered a stunning performance at the São Paulo Grand Prix, securing pole position with a blistering lap, showcasing his confidence and precision. This victory follows his dominant win in the sprint race, further solidifying his position as a championship contender.
The weekend proved challenging for Norris’s rivals. Max Verstappen, struggling with his Red Bull car, was shockingly eliminated in Q1, starting the race from 16th. Verstappen expressed frustration with the car’s lack of grip, describing it as “completely broken.” Oscar Piastri, Norris’s teammate, qualified fourth after crashing out of the sprint race, continuing a recent run of difficult races.
Norris now leads Piastri by nine points and Verstappen by 39 points in the championship standings, with 108 points still up for grabs. Despite downplaying the significance of momentum, Norris admitted to being in a good rhythm, stating, “When I’m in a good rhythm, when I can stay calm, put it all together I’ll be on top.”
Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli secured a strong second-place start, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in third. Lewis Hamilton, Leclerc’s teammate, had a disappointing qualifying session, ending up 13th.
The sprint race was marked by a dramatic accident involving Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto, who was thankfully uninjured after a heavy impact with the barriers.
With Verstappen starting far back and Piastri looking to regain his form, all eyes will be on Sunday’s race to see if Norris can capitalize on his pole position and further extend his championship lead.
