Los Angeles, CA – UCLA is reportedly finalizing a deal to move its home football games from the iconic Rose Bowl in Pasadena to SoFi Stadium in Inglewood beginning in the 2026 season, according to multiple sources within the UCLA athletic department.
The move, motivated primarily by the potential for increased revenue from premium seating and luxury suites at SoFi, is described as “near-done” by one source, with many within the department discussing it as already accepted.
However, the move is not without its challenges. UCLA would need to buy out its current lease with the City of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Company, a deal estimated to cost between $60-80 million. The current lease runs through June 2044.
Adding to the complexity, the City of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl Operating Company have already filed a lawsuit accusing UCLA of betraying their agreement. If the Bruins proceed with the move, a lawsuit for damages is almost certain, with Pasadena officials claiming potential losses exceeding $1 billion.
UCLA has played its home games at the Rose Bowl since 1982. The Rose Bowl has a current capacity of 89,702 and is located 32 miles from UCLA’s Westwood campus. SoFi Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, opened in 2020, seats 70,240, and is located about 12 miles from campus.
