Longtime CPI and AITUC Leader K. Sethu Selvam Resigns, Cites Mismanagement

Puducherry, India – November 9, 2025 – Veteran trade unionist K. Sethu Selvam announced his resignation from all organizational positions within the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today.

Selvam, a prominent figure in the region’s labor movement, stated his decision stemmed from dissatisfaction with the current management of party affairs, specifically citing the influence of former MLA N. Kalainathan as a source of concern. “I am resigning from all positions in CPI and AITUC. The CPI is being misled by former MLA N. Kalainathan. That is the reason for my resignation,” Selvam told reporters.

Selvam, who ran unsuccessfully against Chief Minister N. Rangasamy in the 2021 Assembly elections for the Thattanchavady constituency, also revealed his intention to contest from the same constituency in future elections. “I will definitely contest from the constituency. I finished as runner in 2021 and secured my deposit, which none other could do in our front,” he stated. He indicated that he would announce his future political plans in the near future.

Selvam’s departure marks a significant shake-up within the local CPI and AITUC. The impact of his resignation on the political landscape of Puducherry remains to be seen.
