Red Wings Face Blackhawks in Centennial Clash, Seek to Rebound

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings are set to battle the Chicago Blackhawks at Little Caesars Arena this Sunday at 1 p.m. for their annual Military Appreciation Game, presented by Chevrolet. This Original Six matchup marks the final day of Detroit’s Hockeytown Centennial FanFest Weekend, as both teams are also celebrating their respective Centennial campaigns.

After a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Friday, the Red Wings are looking to turn things around and capitalize on the home advantage. Defenseman Moritz Seider stressed the need for confidence and improved puck possession, while forward Emmitt Finnie highlighted the importance of tightening up the defensive zone.

A key focus for the team is improving their power play, which has struggled recently. “We need to be better with execution, be cleaner, and get into the zone,” said Seider.

In roster news, forward prospect Nate Danielson has been recalled from the Grand Rapids Griffins, Detroit’s AHL affiliate.

The Blackhawks, coached by former Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill, enter the game with a solid start to the season, earning points in 10 of their first 15 games. Rookie phenom Connor Bedard is leading the charge for Chicago, coming off a four-point performance in a 4-0 shutout win against Calgary. Goalie Spencer Knight has also been stellar with a .926 save percentage.

Coach Todd McLellan acknowledged Bedard’s talent, stating, “He’s very confident playing a two-way game. I think Blash has done a really good job there with that team and with him in particular. When he exudes confidence, everybody seems to pick up on it.”

Fans can watch the game on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit or listen on the Red Wings Radio Network (97.1 The Ticket in Detroit).
