FDNY Firefighter Dies in Line of Duty, Mayor Adams and Commissioner Tucker Mourn Loss

New York, NY – November 9, 2025 – The New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and Mayor Eric Adams are mourning the line-of-duty death of Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, 42, a veteran of the FDNY for 11 years. Brady passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, after suffering a cardiac arrest while operating on the roof of a large fire at 9407 Kings Highway in Brooklyn.

Fellow firefighters and FDNY EMS personnel immediately rendered aid to Brady at the scene before rushing him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

“Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love. There is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening,” said Mayor Adams in a press conference today. “Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters — all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his wife, Kara, and his entire family during this difficult time.”

FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker echoed the Mayor’s sentiments, stating, “The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady. Firefighter Brady was a dedicated public servant, and firefighting was in his blood. We are thinking of his family, friends, and fellow members as we join them in mourning this immense loss.”

Brady joined the FDNY on July 14, 2014, and after graduating from the Fire Academy, was assigned to Engine 227 in Brooklyn. In 2022, he transferred to Ladder 120. Brady, a resident of Queens, is survived by his wife, Kara, as well as his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, both of whom are also FDNY Firefighters. He also has several cousins and uncles who are members of the department.

Firefighter Brady is the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. The most recent line-of-duty death was that of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman. Funeral arrangements are currently pending.
