ATM Scam Nets Brothers Arrest in Rajapalayam

Rajapalayam, November 9, 2025 – Rajapalayam South Police have apprehended two brothers, Karthik, 27, and Parthiban, 24, both residents of Poigainavithampatti in Vellore district, for allegedly stealing ₹1.15 lakh from a local man through an ATM card scam.

The victim, Ramesh, 57, reported to police that on October 14th, he encountered a helpful stranger while attempting to withdraw cash at an ATM. This individual, later identified as one of the accused, reportedly switched Ramesh’s debit card after obtaining his PIN under the pretense of the card not working.

Police investigation revealed that the suspects subsequently withdrew ₹40,000 in cash and spent ₹75,000 on fireworks using the stolen ATM card.

“We were able to identify the suspects using CCTV footage from the ATM location,” stated a police spokesperson. “Our investigation also indicates that these individuals have been involved in similar incidents across Vellore, Arakkonam, Villupuram, Sivaganga and Palani.”

The brothers, who work as drivers, are now in custody, and the vehicle they used in the crime has been seized. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of their criminal activities.
