Dubai, UAE: A row over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy, which the Indian cricket team refused to receive from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi after their victory, may be nearing resolution. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that informal discussions have taken place with Naqvi on the sidelines of recent International Cricket Council (ICC) meetings in Dubai.
The dispute arose when the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian side declined to accept the winner’s trophy from Naqvi, leading the PCB chief to retain possession of the trophy at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) headquarters in Dubai, with instructions that it not be moved without his authorization.
According to sources, ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khawaja and CEO Sanjog Gupta facilitated a separate meeting between Saikia and Naqvi.
“It was really good to start the process of negotiation,” Saikia told PTI. “Both sides cordially participated in the meeting which took place on the sidelines of the ICC board meet,” he added, expressing confidence that a solution will be worked out soon.
Saikia assured that both sides are exploring options to settle the issue amicably. He said, “The ice has been broken now, so various options will be worked out. There will be options from the other side as well and we will also give options on how to settle this issue and come to an amicable solution.”
The discussions mark a significant step toward resolving the situation and ensuring the Indian team receives their rightful trophy. Further details on the proposed solutions are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
