ICC Forms Committee to Resolve Asia Cup Trophy Dispute Between India and Pakistan

Dubai, UAE – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has intervened in a growing dispute between India and Pakistan regarding the Asia Cup 2025 trophy presentation. At a meeting held in Dubai on Friday, the Board addressed the unusual situation where the Indian team, winners of the Asia Cup on September 28, refused to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi, who also heads the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

The refusal stemmed from ongoing tensions between the two nations, following India’s victory over Pakistan by five wickets in Dubai. According to sources, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) raised the issue during the ICC meeting, highlighting the need for a resolution.

Recognizing the importance of both India and Pakistan to the global cricketing landscape, the ICC Board formed a committee to address the matter urgently. The committee’s mandate is to find an amicable solution, ensuring that India receives the trophy. This matter was not on the official agenda.

In other news, the ICC announced the expansion of the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2029 to include 10 teams, up from the current eight. This decision follows the success of the recent tournament, which saw record-breaking attendance and viewership figures, with close to 300,000 fans and nearly 500 million viewers in India. The win by India over South Africa by 52 runs has further fuelled the popularity of Women’s Cricket.

Mithali Raj’s appointment to the ICC Women’s Cricket Committee and the Olympics were also key discussions during the meeting.
