Istanbul, Turkey – Talks between the Taliban and Pakistan, mediated by Qatar and Turkey in Istanbul, have ended without a resolution, raising concerns about continued tensions and potential clashes between the neighboring nations. The Taliban government has publicly accused Pakistan of presenting unrealistic and unachievable demands during the two-day discussions.
“During the talks, the Pakistani side attempted to refer all responsibilities regarding its security to the Afghan government, while at the same time it did not demonstrate any willingness to assume responsibility for either Afghanistan’s security or its own,” stated Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. He characterized Pakistan’s attitude as “irresponsible and non-cooperative.”
Pakistan has confirmed the deadlock, with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stating that Islamabad “will not support any steps by the Taliban government that are not in the interest of the Afghan people or neighboring countries.”
