Speeding College Bus Causes Major Accident in Madurai

Madurai, India – November 7, 2025 – Two people were seriously injured Friday afternoon when a speeding college bus careened out of control on Alagarkoil Road in Sundararajanpatti, Madurai. The bus, belonging to an engineering college in Kidaripatti and carrying students, reportedly lost control while crossing Sundararajanpatti.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Balasundaram, the bus, driven by 52-year-old Ramakrishnan, veered into oncoming traffic, striking an autorickshaw. The bus dragged the autorickshaw approximately 20 feet before slamming into a building on the side of the road.

M. Arumugam, 48, who was sitting on the steps of the building, sustained fractures to both legs. The autorickshaw driver, A. Kannan, 48, suffered multiple injuries and was transported to a private hospital. The lack of a median on the four-way highway stretch is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the severity of the accident. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
