Yankees Make Qualifying Offer to Grisham, Add Castro to Roster Amid Free Agency Buzz

New York, NY – The New York Yankees made key roster decisions on the first day of free agency, tendering a $22.025 million qualifying offer to center fielder Trent Grisham while declining to extend an offer to reliever Devin Williams. Additionally, the team added veteran right-hander Kervin Castro to their 40-man roster.

Grisham, coming off a career year with 34 home runs, now has until November 18th to accept the offer, which would significantly raise his salary from $5 million in 2024. If he declines, he will enter free agency, where his projected value is estimated at four years for $47.6 million. While Grisham enjoyed a power surge in 2025, his strikeout rate remained high, and his defensive metrics were below average.

Devin Williams will now explore free agency after an inconsistent season with the Yankees.

Meanwhile, Kervin Castro, a 27-year-old right-hander, joins the Yankees after a stellar season with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, where he posted a 1.35 ERA in 35 games. Castro features a mid-90s fastball and curveball, striking out 52 in 47 innings. While he has limited big-league experience with the Giants and Cubs, he showed promise in 2021 with a 0.00 ERA in 10 games.

With the addition of Castro, the Yankees still have five open spots on their 40-man roster after accounting for free agent departures and the reinstatement of players from the 60-day injured list. The team is expected to remain active as they seek to bolster their roster for the 2026 season.
