Bengaluru, India – November 7, 2025 – After years of delays, the ambitious 73-km Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC), formerly known as the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR), is back on track. The government plans to issue civil work tenders, valued at ₹7,000 crore, by March 2026.
The project, spearheaded by Bengaluru Business Corridor Limited (BBCL), aims to alleviate traffic congestion by constructing an eight-lane, access-controlled road with four-lane service roads on each side. The corridor will connect major highways including Tumakuru Road, Ballari Road, Old Madras Road, and Hosur Road.
The project will be divided into three construction packages, each estimated to cost around ₹2,500 crore. Land acquisition for Phase 1 is reportedly nearing completion. Assystem, a French engineering consultancy, is currently developing the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Tenders will be released once 80% of the required land is acquired. Contractors, once finalized (approximately three months after bids are floated), will have 30 months to complete construction from the date of land possession.
The government is yet to finalize the execution model (EPC or BOT) but is considering the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) used by NHAI, which allows for separate toll collection management. In addition to the main corridor, the project requires another 500 acres for interchanges and cloverleaf junctions, now increased to five to accommodate anticipated future traffic.
The project has faced opposition from farmers and landowners citing concerns about the compensation package, the commercial development aspects of the corridor, and the use of the outdated 1894 Land Acquisition Act. Concerns have been raised over using 1894 Land Acquisition Act instead of the 2013 Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.
