Fri Nov 07 09:37:54 UTC 2025: ## South Korean Power Plant Demolition Turns Deadly: At Least Three Dead, Search Continues for Missing Workers

SEOUL, South Korea – November 7, 2025 (The Hindu) – A 60-meter tower collapsed at a decommissioned thermal power plant in Ulsan, South Korea, on Thursday, November 6, claiming the lives of at least three workers. The incident occurred during demolition work being conducted by Korea East-West Power Co.

According to South Korean fire official Kim Jung-shik, two additional workers have been located under the rubble and are presumed dead, while two remain missing. The collapse occurred while workers were dismantling the massive steel structure of the heating facility.

Images from the scene depict a mangled structure lying on the ground, surrounded by similar infrastructure. Rescue efforts have been hampered by the risk of further collapse, despite the deployment of heat sensors, remote scopes, and search dogs.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who has prioritized workplace safety, has ordered a comprehensive effort to locate and rescue the remaining trapped workers. The incident is a major setback for the country’s efforts to improve safety standards in industrial environments.
