Tracy Morgan Leads the Charge in New Paramount+ Sitcom “Crutch”

New York, NY – Paramount+ dives into family dynamics and Harlem life with its new sitcom, “Crutch,” a spinoff of CBS’s “The Neighborhood,” starring Tracy Morgan. Created by Owen Smith, the show centers on Francois “Crutch” Crutchfield, Calvin’s (Cedric the Entertainer) cousin, as he navigates a newly re-filled nest.

Crutch, a Harlem business owner and widower, finds his empty nest days over when his adult children unexpectedly move back into his brownstone. His son, Jake (Jermaine Fowler), a Columbia Law graduate, forsakes a lucrative law firm for legal aid, jeopardizing his independence. Daughter Jamilah (Adrianna Mitchell) arrives with her children, Lisa (Braxton Paul) and Mase (Finn Maloney), seeking refuge from a separation. Chaos and comedy ensue as the Crutchfield family re-learns how to live under one roof.

The series is a multi-camera comedy filmed before a live studio audience. “Crutch” doesn’t shy away from explicit, colorful language, taking advantage of the freedom offered by streaming, features a stellar supporting cast, including Kecia Lewis as Crutch’s sister-in-law Toni and Luenell as the neighborhood snoop, Ms. Pearl. Adrian Martinez shines as Flaco, Crutch’s best friend and employee. Guest stars like Arsenio Hall, Deon Cole, and Vanessa A. Williams add further flavor to the series.

Reviewers are calling “Crutch” engaging and easy to watch. Morgan is praised for his portrayal of a stubborn but loving patriarch navigating generational divides, financial struggles, and the complexities of community. Episode 3, “Emotional Crutch,” is highlighted for its humor and sincerity, exploring the evolving dynamics of father-son relationships.

All eight episodes of “Crutch” are now streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
