Mon Nov 03 20:12:21 UTC 2025: ## Fragile Truce Yields Hope, But Concerns Remain in Gaza
Gaza City – A fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has brought a glimmer of hope to Gaza, with the release of five Palestinian prisoners and the return of dozens of Palestinian remains by Israel on Monday. However, the truce is marred by accusations of ceasefire violations and continued violence, raising fears of a renewed escalation.
The five freed prisoners, released by Israel as part of the agreement, were taken to Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir el-Balah for medical examinations. Relatives gathered, offering embraces and desperately seeking information about missing family members. “This is the first time since the ceasefire that Israeli forces have released unknown Palestinian prisoners,” reported Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary. Thousands of Palestinians remain imprisoned in Israel, many held without charge.
Earlier, the Gaza Health Ministry announced the receipt of 45 Palestinian remains from Israel through the Red Cross, bringing the total to 270. Forensic teams are working to identify the bodies before returning them to families. Officials have previously stated that many returned bodies bore signs of torture and abuse, including bound hands, blindfolds, and facial disfigurement, and were without identification.
The handover is part of a larger prisoner and body exchange mediated by Turkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, with US involvement.
Despite the ceasefire, reports of Israeli attacks have surfaced. A source at Nasser Medical Complex told Al Jazeera Arabic that three Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire north of Rafah. The Israeli army claimed it launched strikes on southern Gaza, alleging individuals had crossed a controlled “yellow line,” a claim that could not be independently verified. In Gaza City, a child was reportedly among three people wounded by Israeli fire.
Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum reported that Israel continues to use drones to drop grenades on buildings, acts authorities describe as ceasefire violations. The Gaza Government Media Office accuses Israel of over 125 ceasefire violations since the truce began, warning that continued attacks threaten to reignite full-scale hostilities.
