Conduent Data Breach Exposes Personal Information of Over 10 Million
WASHINGTON – Business services provider Conduent is notifying over 10 million individuals that their personal information was compromised in a data breach that occurred earlier this year. The company, which offers services such as medical billing and Medicaid screening to various companies and government agencies, experienced a service disruption in January 2025, later revealed to be the result of a cyberattack.
Hackers gained access to Conduent’s network as early as October 21, 2024, but remained undetected until January 13, 2025. During that time, they were able to steal a variety of files containing sensitive personal information including names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance details, and medical information. State government details from Oregon show that over 10.5 million people had their personal information stolen in the hack. According to HIPPAJournal.com, the hack ranks eighth in the list of largest healthcare breaches in the world.
Conduent is informing affected individuals via mail. The company is encouraging those impacted to obtain free credit reports and place credit freezes, rather than offering identity theft protection services.
In a statement to affected users, Conduent stated that law enforcement was notified and systems were safely restored upon discovery of the breach. The company further added that it is unaware of any instances of the stolen data being used for fraudulent purposes.
The breach is a significant incident, ranking as one of the largest healthcare data breaches globally, and raises serious concerns about the security of sensitive data held by third-party service providers.
