Mon Nov 03 11:00:00 UTC 2025: Typhoon Tino Threatens Philippines; Visayas, Mindanao, and Southern Luzon Brace for Impact
Manila, Philippines – The Philippines is bracing for the onslaught of Typhoon Tino (international name: Kalmaegi), the 20th tropical cyclone to hit the country this year. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that moderate to torrential rain and strong to destructive winds are expected to impact the Visayas, parts of Mindanao, and several areas in Southern Luzon.
Potential landfall locations include Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands. PAGASA has issued alerts for floods, landslides, and storm surges, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
Several areas are already experiencing the effects of the typhoon. In Butuan City, floodwaters have submerged a public cemetery. The Cagayan de Oro City government suspended work on Monday afternoon and Tuesday due to heavy downpours. Widespread power outages were reported across parts of Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon as the storm intensified.
Residents are stocking up on supplies and reinforcing their homes, remembering the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette in 2021. Rampaging floodwaters have been reported in Barangay Concepcion, Cabadbaran City, Agusan del Norte.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has announced the cancellation of approximately 30 flights due to the typhoon, advising affected passengers to contact their airlines for rebooking and rescheduling.
Authorities are urging residents to remain indoors and prepare for possible flooding and landslides. PAGASA continues to monitor the typhoon’s track and will provide updates on wind signals, rainfall warnings, and storm surge warnings.
