Tracy, CA – A woman is in custody after allegedly fleeing the scene of a single-vehicle DUI crash on Interstate Highway 580 early this morning, leaving her one-year-old daughter critically injured inside the wrecked car. The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on westbound I-580 near the Grant Line Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Authorities were alerted to the incident after witnesses reported a pedestrian walking on the highway. CHP officers located the woman, whose high level of intoxication allegedly prevented her from initially disclosing the crash or its location.
After questioning, officers were able to locate the crash site around 5:20 AM. They discovered the injured child, who had managed to exit the vehicle, and immediately transported her to Oakland Children’s Hospital. While her injuries were described as major, she is expected to recover.
