Vietnam Flood Death Toll Climbs to 13, Over a Dozen Still Missing

Hanoi, Vietnam – October 31, 2025 – Devastating floods across central Vietnam have claimed the lives of 13 people, with 11 still unaccounted for, the Vietnamese government announced today. Record rainfall in recent days has triggered widespread flooding, submerging entire communities and causing significant damage to infrastructure.

The UNESCO World Heritage sites of Hue, the former imperial capital, and the ancient town of Hoi An are among the worst affected, with images showing houses submerged up to their rooftops. Over 116,000 homes have been inundated, and 5,000 hectares of crops destroyed. Roads and railways have been severely damaged, disrupting traffic and cutting off power to several areas.

Vietnam is highly vulnerable to storms and flooding, particularly during the June-October storm season. The government’s disaster agency reports that the floods have caused extensive property damage, and the situation is expected to worsen.

Heavy rain is forecast to continue in central Vietnam, with daily rainfall exceeding 500 millimeters in some areas from Friday morning to late Saturday. Authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions and prepare for further flooding.
