Bengaluru Artist Duo Revitalize Dakhni Language and Culture Through Comics
BENGALURU, INDIA – November 1, 2025 – Faced with the fading presence and often negative portrayal of the Dakhni language, animation artist Rahil Mohsin and his wife Alankrita Amaya launched “Hallubol” in 2023, a multimedia initiative breathing new life into the culture. The name, meaning “speak softly” in Dakhni, reflects Rahil’s childhood experience where speaking the language often led to mockery and a sense of inferiority.
Hallubol publishes witty, relatable comic books and motion comics to showcase the vibrancy and humor of the language, which is spoken across the Deccan region. Their comics, presented in both Dakhni and English, aim to bridge the gap between the Dakhni community and a wider audience.
Their debut comic, “Mard Bann,” tackled the challenges of toxic masculinity and generational trauma, while “Abba Ari” draws humor and pathos from everyday Dakhni life. Characters and dialogues are often inspired by Rahil’s family and his surroundings, offering an authentic glimpse into Dakhni culture.
Hallubol’s founders want to represent their culture in a positive light, counteracting negative stereotypes in the media.
The team of Hallubol will be at Hyderabad Comic Con at the Hitex Exhibition until November 2nd.
