Mysuru: BJP Protest Erupts Over Unveiling of Devaraj Urs Statue, CM Set to Inaugurate

Mysuru, India – November 1, 2025 – Tensions flared in Mysuru today as BJP workers staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office, demanding the immediate unveiling of a statue of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs. The protesters accused the current administration of neglecting the statue, which was funded during the tenure of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

The BJP criticized the delay in unveiling the statue of Mr. Urs, a leader celebrated for his contributions to social justice and the empowerment of marginalized communities. Party leaders expressed disappointment that Congress representatives had allegedly not even inspected the statue.

Amidst the protest, Minister H.C. Mahadevappa announced that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil the statue on November 3 during his visit to Mysuru. Mahadevappa attributed the delay to “paucity of time” and acknowledged the pressure from pro-Kannada activists. While he could have unveiled the statue himself, the Minister said the ceremony would have more significance if the CM performed the unveiling.

The BJP, while welcoming the announcement, emphasized that Mr. Urs was a visionary leader who introduced numerous social and administrative reforms for the betterment of Karnataka. The party deemed it “highly condemnable” that the district administration had previously shown indifference towards the leader and had even threatened to unveil the statue on behalf of his admirers.
