Chengalpattu Court Sentences Two Men to 20 Years for Heinous Rape and Robbery

CHENNAI, October 29, 2025 (The Hindu) – In a significant victory for justice, the Mahila Court in Chengalpattu has sentenced two men, A. Arputharaj and S. Arun, to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the rape and robbery of a woman in 2022. The crime occurred at the victim’s home within the Pallikaranai police station limits.

The incident, which took place on September 23, 2022, involved the two men posing as air conditioner repairmen to gain entry to the woman’s residence. Once inside, they subjected her to a brutal gang rape, stole a 20-gram gold chain, and issued threats.

The Pallikaranai police promptly registered a case based on the victim’s report, invoking Sections 450, 342, 323, 354 A, 376D, 392, and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code. Following a thorough investigation, Arputharaj, 29, and Arun, 31, both residents of Purasawalkam, were apprehended.

During the trial at the Mahila Court, the prosecution presented a strong case, examining 27 witnesses and marking 15 exhibits. The court, after careful consideration of the evidence and adherence to legal procedures, found both accused guilty. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed fines on the convicted men.

This verdict underscores the commitment of the Indian judicial system to protecting the rights and safety of women and delivering justice to victims of violent crime.
